The first two modules of the A-Trainer training will be completed this afternoon in Füssen. Under the direction of DEB-National coach for science and education Karl Schwarzenbrunner and DEB-Speaker for coach training and club support Collin Danielsmeier, the 32 participants have now completed the first steps on the way to the highest coaching license.
We accompanied the Bundeswehr trainer and former national player Jennifer Harss on both modules – for her, taking part in the training is the next logical step: “As a trainer, it is important to constantly develop and educate yourself. You can definitely see a difference to the B-Trainer training. Many topics build on one another and of course overlap, but you can see that the subject matter goes even deeper and other details are emphasized.”
In module one, which took place in mid-June 2024, the prospective coaches completed a five-day theory block. The speakers, such as national coach Harold Kreis or the sports psychologist of the German national ice hockey team Dr. Tom Kossak, taught topics such as player development, game philosophy, rhetoric and sports psychology. “I find it very valuable to hear from such experienced and successful coaches about their experiences and how they approach different things. I find these practical reports very positive and I also think it’s nice that they take the time to pass on their knowledge to us,” says Jennifer Harss, who appreciates the in-depth training.
The second module of the course was largely characterized by tactical topics and a deeper understanding of the game, which was conveyed through a high degree of practical work. In addition to Karl Schwarzenbrunner and Collin Danielsmeier, the participants also had the opportunity to DEB-Sports director Christian Künast and U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter as contact persons and speakers on site in Füssen.
This year’s field of participants in the course is diverse, with former professionals and trainers with a wide range of previous experience. Jennifer Harss really appreciates this fact: “For me, a large and important part of the trainer training is the exchange with colleagues. Everyone works in different age groups or in professional leagues, so it is very insightful to be able to talk about the individual topics with like-minded people.”
As the next step on the way to the A-Trainer license, the participants now have to create a video teaching sample in their clubs, which will be part of the final examination.
