German nurse wants to do the Bacherlor of nursing in NZ – allnurses

Hi everbody out there!
Iam an 41 year old nurse in Germany. May geratest wish is to move over to NZ. Our immigration consultant recommended me to do a Bachlor of Nursing course, as possible way to get to new zealnd. Has anyone experieces with the providers there? There are quite a few. I know the easiest way would bei to get registrated with the coucil of nursing, but my english reaches only for a 6.5 acedemic IELTS. So i find it a good way, to get into the system there. My wife is allowed to work full time during that time. So if anyone have advice for I would be very thankful.

To get into the program, you will NEED level 7 IELTS in each area, this is non-negotiable. So, if you want to be a nurse, you simply need to work on your English. The only way to be registered with the Nursing Council is to actually be a registered nurse (or enrolled nurse, nurse assistant or nurse practitioner, but RN is the most common). You would need to do the Bachelor of Nursing and pass State beforehand.
However, my usual recommendation to people interested in studying nursing is to decide whether or not they actually want to be a nurse. I say, if they are not sure then they shouldn’t bother, however if they are then they should go for it.

Hi Sairin, thank you for your advice, but all the Polytechs postulate a 6.5 in their entry requirments to study in NZ. My calculation is to improve my english during the sty there, then get registered and start working with a little bit more knowlegede ab the NZ helath sytem…

Hi The bavarian just want to ask how many times did you take your ielts? just want to share what i know about this but still your consultant knows more than i do. i have some friends here in nz working as healthcare assistant although shes a registered nurse from her country of origin but shes not able to register with nursing council as she needs to take all 7 in her ielts what she did was take ielts twice last year and was able to get 7 in reading, writing, listening and speaking combining her 2 exam results. she’s going to have her competency assessment program later this month in wintec to be able to register as a nurse here in nz. if you are a registered nurse there in germany maybe you can take this path but not really sure though:)

That´s good to hear, UCOL ist one of my favorites. Was it in Wanganui or Palmerston North?

I am wondering if you have ever been to NZ? Have you taken time to objectively research? We are a poor country in OECD terms. Inflation and unemployment are rising as well as our debt burden. Immigration and education are big industry and I would suggest you not believe everything you are told. 25% of kiwis live outside of Nz with 500,000 in Australia. NZ has a huge immigrant population and with a poor economy kiwis are often given preference in the job market. Just some things to think about. Best of luck.

it was in Palmerston North, the cost of lving and renting there is pretty good. In my class the only people who didn’t get jobs were those who didn’t apply and there were about 40 of us.

Hi,
just wondering if you have looked into polytech fees unless you have a New Zealand permanent residency or citizenship you would have to pay international student fees which are a lot higher than domestic students pay. If you are already a RN i think your better option would be to work on your english to get to the level 7 and apply for a NZ registration rather than doing a 3 year degree. I studied at CPIT in Christchurch and found there program really good

No, you do not need a bachelor of nursing and neither do you need to pass State beforehand. This is simply false information. If you are a qualified german nurse and your qualification states “Krankenpfleger” you can register straight away after passing the IELTS.

Hi Hans
As a qualified german nurse you have to work on your english and get your IELTS scores. Then you can go and register and work in NZ as a registered nurse. You do not have to study at all.
May I suggest not to take the IELTS in Bavaria? German assessors like to be stricter than necessary.

Please what about enrolled Nurse?
I did my ausbildung in Hamburg to become A state approved Gesundheits and Pflegeassistentin, is a 2 years dual vocational training, I won’t to get registered in newzealand as an enrolled nurse.
Do I need to complete competence assessment program?
